Top 5 things to know about Hair and Makeup Trails.

 

1.       Do I really need a trial

The short answer is no! However, trials allow an opportunity to get to know your stylist and get an idea of whether they can achieve the look you’re after. If your budget doesn’t stretch to a trial, spend some time talking to your stylist to get a feel for them and to be clear about what you’re looking for on the day.

 

2.       When should I do my trial

On average trials are done around 12 weeks prior to the wedding. This allows enough time to find hair accessories or order flowers for your hair but not too long to change your mind about what you want. Of course trials can be done whenever it suits you. Many brides will arrange a trial on their hen’s day or shower tea so that their hair and makeup is well-tested.

 

3.       What do I need for my trial

In order to get the best out of your trial it’s important to be prepared:

• Have a clear vision of what you want. Have pictures of styles that you like either printed or ready on your computer or phone. Generally only one or two styles will be attempted at a trial so it’s important to have a clear idea of what you want.
• On the day of the trial have your hair clean and dry.
• Ensure your face is clear of makeup and well moisturized.
• Have your own lipstick. Your makeup artist may have a raft of colours to choose from but if you have a favourite that you’re thinking of using have it on hand to show your makeup artist.
• If you have allergies or sensitive skin, make this known to your makeup artist. Whilst most makeup artists carry high quality products, each person is different and your makeup artist may choose to use your own tested products to avoid any allergy issues.
• Have any hair accessories (combs, sparkly pins etc.) or veils available if you can. Some stylists may carry samples to try but don’t rely on this.

 

4.       The style I saw in a picture doesn’t suit me, is that my stylists fault?

This is an all too familiar problem. Don’t be surprised if the style you have been dreaming about doesn’t actually suit you. Most likely it is not the stylist’s ability. Let’s face it we don’t all have the face structure of Eva Longoria or Jo-Lo’s tresses. Trust your stylist to adapt the makeup and hair style you love to suit your hair type and face shape.

 

5.       Will my hair and makeup be exactly the same on the big day?

Some stylists will make a general attempt at the style so that you can get an idea of what will work and others will go to great lengths to achieve as close to perfect as possible. In all cases though, the style will be ‘almost right’ but may require a few tweaks on the day. Don’t expect your stylist to start over to make minor changes.

Every stylist’s interpretation of a look will be slightly different. It’s important to be engaged in the process. Be sure to inform your stylist if you want anything bigger, straighter, higher, lower, darker, lighter etc as you go. Stylists are doing their best to get the image of what is in your head onto it!
